Riya Fukui, MD

Dr. Riya Fukui is a board-certified physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as a DiMare Scholar and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He graduated magna cum laude from Rice University with dual degrees in computer science and biochemistry.

Dr. Fukui has clinical experience across prominent healthcare institutions, including Methodist West and Encompass Katy, and has served as CEO and Medical Director at Houston Rehabilitation Group. His work focuses on improving rehabilitation outcomes through patient-centered care, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He has led projects aimed at enhancing physician-nursing communication and improving patient satisfaction after discharge.

He is also a published researcher in rehabilitation robotics and has contributed to studies in areas such as post-COVID pulmonary rehabilitation. In addition to his clinical and research efforts, Dr. Fukui is actively involved in community outreach—providing health screenings in underserved areas and contributing to international relief efforts.

Dr. Fukui integrates innovation and technology into his practice and has participated in design challenges including NASA’s SpacePoop project and assistive technology development through Hackaday.io.
